| Organic substance with specific action on the function of certain tissues. They are produced by glands of internal secretion or by certain tissues, and secreted into the blood, which transports them to the effector organs. The main endocrine glands, secretors of hormanas, are the pituitary gland, the adrenal medulla, the thyroid, the pancreas, the ovaries and the testicles. They constitute a system of regulation that, together with nervous regulation, maintain the complex balance in the organism. |
