Hafnium |
| Chemical element of symbol Hf, belonging to group 4 of the periodic table, of atomic number 72 and atomic mass 178,49. It is presented as a silvery, hard or ductile white metal. Chemically it is an element very similar to zirconium. In general, it is not very reactive. It is attacked gently by the air. It is used to create alloys for filaments of light bulbs and manufacture control rods for nuclear power plants. |
