Butanol |
| Also called butyl alcohol this has four isomers which are: n-butyl alcohol is the result of the fermentation of starches or sugars; sec-butyl alcohol is prepared by reduction of butanone; isobutyl alcohol is present in fusel oil, its product of the alcoholic fermentation of carbohydrates; tert-butyl alcohol is obtained by hydration of isobutylene. The first three are liquid and the fourth is a solid. They are used as solvents for paints, varnishes and waxes. |
