Base |
| Substance bitter taste and soapy appearance that changes natural dyes, passes the litmus from red to blue, phenolphthalein turns red and reacts with the acids, neutralizing. For Arrhenius a base is a substance that in aqueous solution provides -OH ions. Bronsted and Lowry claim that a base is a substance capable of capturing H + ions, which extends the Arrhenius concept to non-aqueous media. Finally, Lewis explains basicity by defining the bases as substances capable of yielding a pair of non-shared electrons. |
