| Binary compounds formed by oxygen and another element, in which oxygen acts with oxidation number -2. metal oxides result from combining a metal with an oxygen, are solid ionic compounds and have basic properties. Non-metallic oxides are the result of combining a non-metallic element with oxygen, they form covalent compounds with polarized bonds towards oxygen and present themselves as gases or as liquids. |
