| Polyalcoholic aldehyde of seia carbon atoms. It is the most widespread aldohexone in nature. In the natural state it is in the form of D-glucose. The chemical behavior of glucose is that of aldohexones: it can ferment and produce ethyl alcohol and carbon dioxide, and it can also be metabolized by numerous microorganisms and produce acetic acid, butyric acid, citric acid, butyl alcohol and acetone. It is part of polysaccharides such as starch, glycogen and acetone. |
