Noble gases |
| Gaseous elements of group 18 of the periodic table, also called inert gases. They are helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon and radon. They are characterized by having 8 electrons in the last layer (except helium that only has two), which confers great chemical inertia. Its ionization energy is very high and its affinity is zero. The only interactions are due to Van der Waals forces, which increase with increasing atomic number. Noble gases are found in small amounts in the atmosphere. |
