Ligando

Molecule or ion that binds to neutral atoms or metal cations to form complex ions and coordination compounds. Ligands are characterized by having pairs of non-shared electrons, which can yield to an acceptor that has empty orbitals and energetic levels similar to those of its last layer. Anions do not always act as ligands, although they have electrons available.
