| Chemical element of symbol Yb, belonging to the series of the lanthanides, of atomic number 70 and atomic mass 173,04. It appears as a silvery white metal, soft, ductile and malleable. Chemically it is a reactive element. It oxidizes slowly in contact with air. It is used in the preparation of alloys, in the manufacture of lasers and magnetic materials, and in the electronics industry. |
