Alcohols

Organic compounds that have a hydroxyl group attached to a carbon atom. They have higher boiling points than the corresponding alkanes because of the hydrogen bonds that are established between their molecules. The name of the alcohol is derived from the corresponding hydrocarbon by adding the suffix -ol and indicating the position of the hydroxyl group.
